The Chameleon

February 17, 2020 by Karine Boeykens

While staying at the Bateleur Bushveld Camp, I went on a an amazing night drive. To be honest, being in that open 4X4 in the midst of Kruger National Park, felt a bit daunting. Everywhere, I could hear rustling of bushes and countless eyes were glowing in the dark. There was one very small, light green, almost luminous looking little fellow that especially caught my attention. It was a flap neck chameleon that sleepily sat on a branch. Apparently the critter felt stressed with all those people close by and it quickly changed color. I was so in awe that I decided to carve a chameleon out of cherry wood and simply finished it with natural Danish oil.
